As a candidate, I always wanted to be the first choice of interviewers for the jobs that I applied for, and most of us want this only, there are very few people who give interviews just for the experience.

I was a teenager applying for different internships and jobs while pursuing my final year of graduation as I wanted to make money as soon as possible. I was not a dependent kind of person, just after I passed my 12th, I started taking tuitions and created a part-time income source but that was not enough, so I started applying for internships and a part-time job, some companies shortlisted my resume and called for the interviews. I got excited and nervous both because before that I have never given any interview, but those initial interviews were very crucial lessons of my life as I have done mistakes and learned many things from them like how to act professionally, how to calm down, and control emotions, how to express myself more efficiently and many other things.

1 COMMUNICATE IN THE LANGUAGE, INTERVIEWER IS COMMUNICATING.

My first interview was with a CEO of a digital marketing company on a zoom call due to pandemic, I remember the moment interview began she started questioning me in English and I started answering but after some time, I continued the conversation in Hindi as I am an Indian, most of the time I speak in Hindi that doesn’t mean I was not fluent in English but during that interview, I paid my full attention to explaining my skills and work and didn’t pay attention to the language I was using and this made me talk in Hindi.

Most of us don’t emphasize this point but it is important to communicate correctly and fluently in the language interviewer is communicating, we should be more careful about the language during an interview if the interviewer is communicating in English, then you should also communicate in the same. most of the interviewer doesn’t point out during the interview but silently judge our communication skills through this.

2 ANSWER ALL THE PARTS OF AN INTERVIEWER’S QUESTION.

If you are a fresher, then this tip is especially for you. I was excited and nervous at the same time when my resume got shortlisted and got a call from the HR manager regarding the interview schedule. That was my first interview, and nobody told me to calm down or to google any interview tips, in short, I didn’t know that calmness is the key. During the interview also I got nervous because of this I missed many parts of the questions that she was asking me although I answered an important part of the question for the interviewer all the parts of the questions are equally important, most of the time I was only worried about the fact that is she going to select me? am I performing well? am I convincing enough? because of nervousness and worrying, I made this barmy mistake.

It is important to calm down even if it’s your first interview as calmness increase the chances of better answers and performance, worrying only get you closer to rejection.

3 SHOW AND EXPLAIN YOUR SKILLS PRACTICALLY.

we all prepare ourselves with a long answer of our skills but is the interviewer fully impressed by what we have told, in many cases the answer is no and even I did the same mistake as I was a fresher, I didn’t know how to explain my skills in the first interview. Any candidate can say anything about his or her skills to get the job, it is very difficult for the interviewer to trust everyone and get convinced.

show the interviewer your skills practically and explain to him in detail. For example — if he will ask you how to create a face book shop and you know it then explain all the steps and can also show the practical work if you had done in past, this will easily convenience the interviewer and will make a very strong memory of your work as visualizing is much better then listening and it creates a strong impression in one’s mind and gets you close to the selection.

4 RESEARCH ABOUT THE COMPANY AND JOB PROFILE.

I paid all my attention to my skills and resume and never thought of research about the company. it is very important to research about the company and the job profile it will showcase your interest and time investment in the company

Almost in all the interview, the interviewer asks that -why do you think you are the optimal match for this job? or what do you know about the company? but if you don’t even know the job profile in detail and about the company you will not be able to answer perfectly, and this may upset the interviewer and will leave a bad impression.

5 DO NOT INTERUPT INTERVIEWER IN BETWEEN WITH YOUR QUESTIONS.

Asking questions is not an issue but interrupting the interviewer with your question in between is unprofessional, I have realized it after my two interviews.

you can ask any questions of course related to a job once the interviewer has done interviewing you. interrupting between the interview may disturb the interviewer’s thoughts and can deviate the topic as well.

These are the mistakes that I made and have learned from them and correcting these made a positive differences in conversation during interviews.
